Historical Perspective

In 1881, both the United States and India established medical schools and hospitals for training MD Homoeopathic Physicians. Even though most of the homoeopathic medical schools were converted to allopathic medical schools in the US and England, India continued to establish Homoeopathic schools.

In 1881, the first premier Homoeopathic Medical College and Hospital to train homoeopathic physicians was established in Calcutta, India. Currently this college operates under the University of Calcutta. Dr. Sirkar MD, Dr. Salzar MD, Dr. Majumdhar MD and Dr. DN Roy MD pioneered the establishment of Homoeopathic Medicine in India. At the turn of the century, Calcutta could claim that it produced the world's "best" homoeopathic physicians.

Because of the changes that occurred in India, a new generation of scientists arose. Drs. JN Ghose MD, Jitendra Nath MD, Majumdar MD, RC Nag MD, BK Bose MD, KK Roy MD, NM Chowdury MD and some others received their Homoeopathic Medical Training in the United States of America at the Hahnemannian Medical College and Hospital in Philadelphia and the New York Homoeopathic Medical College and Hospital and passed their MD from Kansas City University. They then returned to India and joined the faculty at CH Medical College and Hospital and University, Calcutta.

From this first generation of great Homoeopathic Medical Educators and Physicians, there arose new leaders to spread the science of Hahnemannian Medicine in the modern era. Among them was K. Oommen George, MD (Homoeopathic Physician).

Dr. George did his undergraduate and graduate training at CH Medical College and Hospital, Calcutta and graduated in 1966. After completion of DMS (Diploma in Medicine and Surgery), MBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery), he had a successful practice and consultation in acute, chronic and degenerative diseases in India. He also taught and was the medical examiner for the Homoeopathic Medical Board.

Then, in the early seventies, he immigrated to the United States as a pioneer to reestablish Hahnemannian medicine and further advance his training in other areas of science. Since 1977, he has been teaching physicians at various teaching hospitals, continuing medical education courses and other medical institutions nationally and internationally. Now he is developing the Los Angeles International University - Samuel Hahnemann School of Homoeopathic Medicine and Hahnemannian Research Center, Inc. He is also a contributor, educator, and researcher in various national and international homoeopathic medical conferences and universities.

Kattunilathu Oommen George, MD (Homoeopathic Physician) is a Professor of Homoeopathic Medicine and Health Sciences according to the articles of the Homoeopathic Educational Advisory Commission and is recognized by the Hahnemannian Medical Society of America (chartered in the District of Columbia). He is licensed by the Florida State Board of Homoeopathic Examiners as an M.D. Homoeopathic Physician.
